Threadwork
An intricate craft wherein artisans meticulously hand-stitch designs onto the fabric, often using contrasting color threads to highlight the patterns. This technique can range from simple stitches to complex, detailed motifs that can sometimes take over 100 hours to complete.
Applique
'Applique' involves the art of sewing smaller pieces of fabric onto a larger piece to create designs, patterns, or images. This technique is often used to add depth and texture to garments using hand or machine stitching, depending on the desired effect. We use 'Applique' extensively for our summer drops as it instantly adds depth and texture to the fabric surface without having to do much.
Pin Tuck & Pleating
'Pintuck & Pleating' are techniques that involve folding and stitching fabric to create patterns and texture. Pintucks are small, narrow folds sewn into the fabric, while pleating involves larger, more structured folds. The fabric is carefully folded and stitched in precise, parallel lines for pintucks, or in a repetitive pattern for pleats. We use these techniques extensively for our summer drops as they depth to the fabric surface without too much drama.
Zardozi Hand Embroidery
Zardozi hand embroidery is a traditional Persian craft that involves intricate hand-embroidery using gold, silver, or metallic threads. This luxurious technique is mostly used to create elaborate patterns, often embellished with beads, pearls, and precious stones. We use 'Zardozi' hand embroidery extensively for our signature silk velvet pieces and each element is carefully placed over countless hours to create cohesive and stunning motifs.
Aari Embroidery
Aari embroidery is a traditional craft that involves using a special hooked needle, known as an "Aari," to create fine, chain-stitch loops on the fabric. This technique is renowned for its detailed and delicate patterns, often featuring floral and paisley motifs. Artisans stretch the fabric tightly over a frame to ensure a smooth working surface. The possibilities with an 'aari' needle are truly endless and this technique has been our go-to for most of our festive pieces.
Gota Work
Gota work is a traditional Rajasthani craft that involves using small pieces of gold or silver ribbons, known as "Gota," to create elaborate patterns on fabric. Artisans cut the gota ribbons into various shapes and sizes, which are then carefully stitched onto the fabric using fine thread, either by hand or with a sewing machine. One of our favourite techniques for all of our pre-festive pieces that you all have come to love.
